Five reasons for seniors to be online
Figuring out
the Internet and social media can be a real challenge, especially for a senior
citizen who rarely uses the Internet.
It is even
easier now to connect to the Internet using your phone. I still use a desktop,
but most folks use their phones.
But it might
not be a bad idea if you try it.
Even though I
used the Internet and a PC extensively at my last job, I find it difficult to
maneuver around various sites. Social media changes constantly, and you
must keep up.
Here are
five reasons to use social media
To keep in contact with people you know
If a relative or friend lives far away, Facebook
and Instagram are great ways to stay connected. You can exchange photos and
even videos. While there seem to be many strange things online, you can choose
which ones you can connect with.
Not everyone
likes to shop, but it is a lot easier online, and the choices are endless. You
can buy anything on Amazon. Walmart is another great choice. Just do a search
on Google or Microsoft Edge, and you can find anything. Just be careful not to
give information on sites that look sketchy.
Online Grocery Shopping
During the COVID-19
pandemic, online grocery shopping became popular. It’s a great idea if you have
problems getting around or don’t want to wait in line at the grocery store.
However, one thing to remember is that there is a delivery charge.
I don’t know
anyone who reads the newspaper anymore, do you? Sites like CNN and Fox keep you
updated almost to the minute. And don’t forget the Weather Channel as well.
The internet
also offers lots of entertainment. Streaming movie channels like Netflix and
Prime Amazon are just a few. There are also lots of games to play, many of them
free.
Being online
is almost critical today. It is a wonderful tool for senior citizens as well.
